Prevoty Wins 2016 Stratus Award for Best Small Company Cloud Security Service

Application-Security-as-a-Service specialist Prevoty won a 2016 Stratus Award for Best Cloud Security Service – Small Company. Prevoty was one of 26 companies recognized by the awards sponsored by The Business Intelligence Group.

In congratulating this year’s winners, managing director of the Business Intelligence Group Russ Fordyce said, “from solutions to enhance sales and marketing, to platforms that improve operational capabilities, to services that transform our health, the spectrum of companies that are now leveraging cloud technology for scale, simplicity and speed is truly staggering.” Prevoty’s winning entry – its Runtime Security Monitoring & Protection technology – is an Application-Security-as-a-Service platform that uses LANGSEC, or Language Theoretic Security technology, to provide both app monitoring and app protection against major threats.

Pictured: Prevoty CTO and co-founder Kunal Anand during his presentation, “Signatures are Dead: Time to Get Fluent in Language Security,” at FinDEVr 2016 New York.

Discussing Prevoty’s runtime application protection technology during his FinDEVr 2016 New York presentation this spring, Prevoty CTO and co-founder Kunal Anand said, “We’ve created a series of plug-ins and agents that can just be dropped immediately into an existing application without requiring any code changes. The idea is that you don’t need to create or write new code to bring security to your application.” Calling the technology “a firewall that lives inside the application,” Anand said that it has been applied effectively to Java’s Virtual Machine and .NET CLR , as well as to scripting languages including Ruby, python, and php.

The company’s LANGSEC approach is especially effective against attacks using MySQL or command injections, or exploiting cross-site scripting. “Let’s take something like a SQL injection, “Anand explained. “You can parse commands, data, tables, but you can also do things like expression evaluation the same exact way a complier would.” He said Prevoty’s solutions enable security professionals to spot the kind of mathematical operations that are increasingly used by attackers “rather than the trivial things being spotted by signatures and pattern matching tools.”

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Prevoty presented its technology at FinDEVr 2016 New York this spring. The company has raised more than $12 million in funding; its most recent investment was a $8 million Series A in March led by US. Venture Partners and featuring participation from dig Ventures and Plus Capital. Last month, Prevoty announced an integration with McAfee Enterprise Security Manager, and at the end of July, the company will hold its information security conference, Black Hat USA 2016.  Prevoty includes among its customers major payment processors, stock exchanges, and a number of top 10 retailers. Julien Bellanger is co-founder and CEO.
